Second Cup Cafe, Wheeling WV

I talk about Second Cup Cafe on here a lot, and Amanda (one of the owners) just told me that if you do a search for Second Cup Cafe, you'll find my blog on there. I wanted to take advantage of that opportunity by telling everyone who stumbles upon this blog looking for information about Second Cup Cafe what a wonderful place this is. I'm frequently found lounging about in Second Cup because it is a very comfortable place with great fair trade organic coffee and the two ladies who own the store are just absolutely wonderful people. (That's a really big run-on sentence and I'm just making it worse by telling you this... sorry.) I pretty much dig the Cafe.

I'm actually in second cup right now with my friends Amanda and KTT. Katie is working, so she can just forget about participating in this little blog ad for 2Cup. Fortunately for you, the Mac comes with a camera... here's a shot of 2 cup today.

This is KTT. She plays Battleship with herself on that really fancy battleship box a lot.

Look at them' comfy couches... that's what I'm sitting on right now.

Here's Jess Amanda at the counter hiding behind the "To-Go" cups.

Here's Jess Amanda... ain't she grand?

JOSHUA: "Amanda, do you want to say anything about 2 Cup?"

AMANDA: "Maybe somehow that there's a corelation between us and [the sit-com] Friends?"

JOSHUA: "Katie, do you want to say anything on here about 2 Cup?"

KATIE: "Uh... [Long pause] it's my office. [Long pause, rifles through papers on table.] I don't know... I haven't thought about it. What should I say about Second Cup?"

JOSHUA: "I don't know whatever you want."

KATIE: [Shuffles papers.] "Can I borrow your pen?"

JOSHUA: "Okay Amanda, we need more than that... anything else?"

AMANDA: "More than what?"

JOSHUA: "More than what Katie said."

AMANDA: "So make her say something?"

JOSHUA: "No you say something"

AMANDA: "Me say something?" [Pause, sniffles] "You could talk about the inspiration of ideas that come up in a coffee shop and then update it every day with information, like today we learned about the sweet potato queen of Jacksonville mississippi." [Giggles] "Oh the creative energy that oozes out of... sorry." [Goes back to reading book.]

KATIE: [Looks up from computer] Did I go somewhere last October?

All that to say, we like Second Cup and if you are anywhere near Market and 8th Street in Wheeling, West Virginia, you should stop by.

Okay, now listen, here is what I really think about 2nd cup. Jessica & Amanda have created an incredibly inviting atmosphere--beyond just the warm tones and comfy furniture. The Barista/owners are delightful, thoughtful, and encouraging to their customers--regular or one-timers. Though come here once, and you'll become a regular!
Plus free wireless internet; fair trade coffee, tea, & chocolate; environmentally friendly cups; local artists' work on the wall; and this month--gourds as centerpieces!

Seriously, can anyone tell me if I went anywhere last October?

She's so much better at this than I am.

How much do they charge for refills? (or is the second cup free?) How is the espresso? Some people say expresso and I feel like punching them in the face for doing this. Does this make me a coffee snob? I don't care!! If you are going to order a drink, order the right drink!! This wonderful coffee treat is not a freaking dodge neon, it is an eSpresso, not an eXpresso. Go away and talk like a hillbilly somewhere else you freaking eXpresso drinking jerk!! Was it dodge that came out with the espresso? I hate them if they did. If they didn't I love them because I used to own an Omni that was a tank in the snow and got better gas mileage than a freaking mule!! That car was rad, until I smashed it into a tree in an ice storm, drunk!! Whoever knows who made/makes the expresso let me know!! I boycot the hell out of that company for being them!! What the hell happened to your freaking beer journal? GO BROWNS!!

The story started out with the second cup being free. That's how it used to work, unfortunately, people started taking advantage of it, and pretty much everyone tried to just get loads and loads of free coffee, so now a refill costs something like 50 cents or something. And the pull expresso shots really goodly.

P.S. I miss your old car, but it was nothing like my Protege. Sigh...

All of your photographs are backwards! The text on the magazines, the $ amount on the cash register... the bathroom door is on the wrong wall......everything is flipped horizontally--- Someone scanned your negatives upside down maybe?? Amanda is still just as cute backwards though...

This coffee shop is so good that the Washington Ave. shop always looks deserted when I drive by. Also, I heard that they were really putting the screws to the Starsux located in the Kroger store and the run-down mall in St. Clairsville.

That's because you can't compete with real people who are really invested in their store. I'm in Cleveland right now, and I'm wishing Second Cup was just around the corner. Now, get this right, I'm not wishing there was "A" Second Cup around the corner, I'm wishing "THE" Second Cup Cafe was just around the corner.

The second cup cafe thrives on drama. The second you leave the owners start to talk about you... and sometimes they do it while you're still in the shop. Your best bet is to go to the Starbucks in Kroger or just make some coffee at home.

Funny that someone would want to accuse two people of saying negative things about people, and hide their identity while doing so. Obviously you feel as if you have been gossipped about at Second Cup and I'm sorry that you feel that way. I suggest that you talk to Jessica and Amanda. They'd be more than willing to hear you out I'm sure. Meanwhile, after having been at Second Cup at least once a week for over a year and a half now, I can honestly say that I haven't heard Jessica or Amanda talking badly about customers after they leave the shop, nor do I hear them talking about customers while customers are there. I'm sorry you disagree, I suggest you grow a set and talk about it in person rather than ranting anonymously on the internet.

How about some info about how they ran their "business" into the ground; they let hordes of their hipster friends block the doorway and take up all the couches:

5 people would take over the couch and maybe one would be buying something.

I've seen several occasions in which decent people wanted to go in and spend money but were deterred by what they saw going on.

How about if you're going to be indecent enough to trash on someone's wrecked dream you wait until your balls have dropped next time. If you're such a tough-guy/gal, why not give a name?

Did you just say "hipster?" Who are you? Marcia Brady?

@Joshua,

How about you wait until you develop some cognitive ability to try to argue with someone online.

Go ahead Keyboard Warrior, I'll anxiously await your next dose of illiterate invective. Sharpen your pixelated crayons.

I'll also let you in on some information that will surprise you Joshua; women don't have balls.

Sorry to disappoint you.

Hey Josh, Its Mandalyn~ I was thinkn bout you guys & thought I would check youre blog...I just read some of the comments about the Cafe and didnt know someone was writing stuff like that on here. Crazy. I guess some people dont have anything better to do. & since they seem to have such a problem with Jess & me and the way we run our business I hope they dont plan on coming to my new place. I dont like rude people...& trust me, I WILL say that to your face~ Hope all is well!!!

Yeah, it's funny that someone would use their time to get onto some dude's blog just to trash someone's business. They must have been really emotionally invested in the cafe to have been so upset about it. I miss you guys, good luck with the next one.
